CO2:record of global emissions

According to a new report, global carbon dioxide emissions rose 3 percent to a new record of 34 billion tonnes in 2011, undermining a U.N. goal to limit the rise in global average temperatures to 2C above industrial levels by 2050.

Until recently, smallholders have been unable to take advantage of the world’s growing carbon market, which is based on organizations selling the carbon they capture – for example through tree-planting – to countries or companies which wish to offset their own emissions.
