Please summarise your areas of climate-change expertise (in terms of subjects and geographical areas)
Most of my work addresses the role of adaptation in the design and implementation of a global climate policy agreement. I focus on:
- the generation, governance and prioritisation of financial resources for adaptation in developing countries
- the integration (‘mainstreaming’) of adaptation and development policy
- the involvement of private firms in reducing people’s vulnerability and advancing adaptation
- the consideration of equity and human rights in adaptation
I also study social and institutional adaptation in Sweden and other European countries.

I am a senior research fellow at the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and an adjunct professor at the Centre for Climate Science and Policy Research of Linköping University.
I lead SEI’s research on climate adaptation, finance and governance. I also focus on climate vulnerability measurement, the role of the private sector in advancing adaptation, and the integration of climate and development policy.
I am the founder and editor in chief of the academic journal Climate and Development. I have been an IPCC author since 1994.
