Ministry misled PMO on deforestation

SUBODH GAUTAMKATHMANDU, Dec 15: The Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation (MoFSC) is found to have misled the Prime Minister´s Office (PMO) by submitting a false report about deforestation in Tarai districts. In Nepalese media climate change issues are covering from half decades. I am covering especially news issues related to climate change and its effect on biodiversity and melting of Himalayas. I have gained expertise on covering theoretical knowledge in these issues participating on various workshops, interactions and training organized by International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ), Ministry of Environment of Nepal and other various organizations working in climate change sector in Nepal. Nepal is Himalayan countries. The research done by ICIMOD shows those 18 Himalayan glaciers are in danger of burst due to the effects of climate change in Nepal. I had gained expertise in covering this issues taking interview with experts, local peoples, observing some area through field visits, photographs and visual clips. Nepalese journalists are in initial stage for covering issues of climate change. We are gaining our expertise participating in seminar, workshop and training orientation organized by various organizations on climate change issues

The Himalayan and Mountainous area of Nepal is reach in biodiversity. I am covering the bio diversity and environments issues from past one decade on print media. Climate change has changed with ecosystems and species to loss biodiversity species. The major changes seen in biodiversity are food chain and water resources which human being depends. I am analyzing those effects of climate change on biodiversity by studying the literature and research done on it, taking interviews of experts, senior citizens and local communities about their sharing of experience on changing pattern of biodiversity.

I had joined the Kanitpur National Daily in 1998 as environment correspondent. I became the Assistant Sub-editor in 2003 and Senior Sub Editor in 2006. I had left the Kantipur Daily in 2008. I had joined the Nagarik and Republica National Daily as Regional Editor in 2008. My current responsibilities are to edit the news sent by district correspondent and cover the major environmental news stories. I had participated in Bio Diversity Conservation Reporting Training and Wild Life Reporting Training organized by Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ) in Kathmandu. I had awarded for WWF Media Conservation Award in 2007 by World Wild Life Fund (WWF) Nepal in 2007 and Environment Journalism Award in 2008 by Bird Conservation Nepal. I had presented paper on theme of 'Climate Change reporting in Nepalese Media' training on 'Climate Change reporting' organized by Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) in 2009. I had joined as member of NEFEJ in 2000. I had become twice time Executive Committee Member. Currently I am General Secretary of NEFEJ. I had worked as Editor of HakaHaki monthly environmental magazine published by NEFEJ from 2007 to 2009.

I had covered the climate change issues reporting from 2007. I had participated in South Asian Journalists workshop on vehicular air pollution organized by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in New Delhi, India from February 20-21, 2003, Better Air Quality Workshop for Media Person organized by BAQ Secretariat in Yogyakarta, Indonesia from December 13-15, 2006 and presented paper on workshop Asian Rhinos Specialist Group Members for South Asia on theme of "Conservation: in the eye of journalist" organized by Asian Rhinos Specialist Group in Kaziranga National Park, Assam, India from March 5-7, 2007. In 2009 I had participated in COP 15 Climate Change Summit held in Copenhagen, Denmark. I had covered the dozen of stories of COP 15 meeting the dateline of newspaper.
