Executive Director
Oil Change International
Steve Kretzmann has worked on climate and energy issues and the global oil industry for the last twenty years. After almost a decade with Greenpeace USA, he served as the environmental advisor to Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People in Nigeria. He has also represented Greenpeace and other organizations at UN climate and ozone negotiations.
Steve helped coordinate global environment, development and indigenous rights groups participation in the World Bank’s Extractive Industries Review, which recommended an end to Bank support for coal and oil projects. He has authored numerous articles and reports and is a regular commentator on issues of corporate accountability, transparency, the global oil industry, environmental and human rights.
He founded Oil Change International in 2005 in order to carry out strategic, systemic campaigns focused on the oil industry – such as Separation of Oil and State. He is currently campaigning for climate justice, an end to fossil fuel subsidies, and participating in international coalition efforts to expose and counter corporate influence over climate legislation and international treaties.
He lives outside of Washington DC with his fiancée and his son.
