Jan Khaskheli was born to a farmer’s family in remote Village of Pakistan's Sindh province. In a society where the people have become more hostile against wildlife and nature, a writer and journalist, Jan Khaskheli is struggling to play his role for nature conservation. He has been associated with media since last 25 years. His contribution in the field of environment, conservation of nature is outstanding and ground breaking. He has written extensively on diverse issues like importance of wildlife species in the overall ecology, impacts of degradation of natural lakes, depletion of mangroves and riverine forests, underground water quality and increasing marine pollution on communities living through generations close over there. He believes that trees and plants play role to store carbon dioxide to minimize its effects on human and the nature.
Jan Khaskheli belongs to a small village and has a very intimate knowledge of the issues which are affecting the indigenous and nomadic communities. He is of a rare breed of journalists who have written on the topics like impact of climate change on livelihood and culture of the people who live on the periphery of Indus delta. Along with this Jan Khaskheli has also written on mammals, reptiles and birds profiles to identify the present status of indigenous wildlife species. His recent stories on fate of rare birds like marble teal, on the new fields of migratory birds, effect of flood on endangered crocodiles and snakes are but a few examples which show his concern with the issues of wild life conservation.
For his contribution and dedication in the field of conservation and environment, Jan Khaskheli has been given many awards by different prestigious organizations. He was awarded Green Journalists Award on Best Feature Writing from Ministry of Environment, Pakistan. He also received Best Environment Reporting Award National Forum on Environment and Health (NFEH). He has also been given Conservation Award from WWF Pakistan’s Indus for All Program in the recognition of work on conservation. He was among the recipient of another Conservation Award from Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) for his contribution to protect mangroves forests along Karachi beaches, which are under threats, as certain land grabbers were active in reclamation of land after cleaning mangroves forests to use the precious land for commercial purposes.
