Sparking Public Engagement -- Bill McKibben Oped (LA Times, Miami Herald, etc.)

350.org works to build a public movement for climate action across the planet. This week, 350.org founder Bill McKibben published an oped in the LA Times which is getting great traction here in the US. It's been republished in many newspapers and blogs, helping shape the debate after the collapse of the climate bill. Please summarise your areas of climate-change expertise (in terms of subjects and geographical areas)
350.org is an international climate campaign that organized the most widespread day of political action in history on October 24 (over 5,200 events in more than 180 countries) in support of a strong climate target: reducing the amount of C02 in our atmosphere to 350 parts per million.

I can speak on the growing climate movement around the world, including grassroots organizing on every continent and the role that young people are playing the movement.

I can also speak on the latest climate science and the need for strong mitigation targets.

Finally, I have attended a number of UNFCCC negotiations and can speak on the political maneuvering that is happening the lead up to Copenhagen.

I coordinate communications for 350.org and enjoyed connecting our organizers on the ground with journalists at the CCMP. I think there's a great overlap between the work that we are doing.

While we didn't intend it at the outset, on October 24 350.org became the largest climate media outlet for a day. In the course of 24 hours, we received over 20,000 photos of climate action around the world, hundreds of hours of video, and testimonials from hundreds of organizers. I think the potential for global grassroots media creation is huge and we're still experimenting as much as possible!

I look forward to working together in the future.

Jamie, are you picking up information about grassroots resistance to clean energy projects in the U.S. I've begun writing about it on my blog. Not sure how worried to be. Get in touch if this strikes a chord. I'm in California next week with Bill to work at the annual environmental reporters workshop. Trust you are good. Keith
