As a wildlife biologist, photographer and writer, I have been active in conservation since 1976. The role of forests in climate change mitigation has brought a new focus on my study animals - apes and elephants - as their role as 'gardeners of the forests' makes them relevant to future carbon storage in tropical forests. As chairman of the Ape Alliance - a coalition of 80 NGOs, and this year as Ambassador for the UN Year of the GOrilla, I have been active in raising this issue in the media.

Hi Ian.
Congratulations on your new appointment as the CMS Ambassador. I'm sure this will be advantageous for all of the species you represent in your duties. Good luck!
