I am HCHW's international campaign associate based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Health Care Without Harm is an international coalition of more than 440 members in 52 countries that works to transform the health care sector so that it is no longer a source of harm to human health and the environment.

We collaborate with doctors, nurses, hospitals, healthcare systems, professional associations, NGOs, governments and international organizations to promote the development and implementation of safe and environmentally healthy practices, processes and products in the health care sector.

HCWH’s areas of work include sustainable healthcare waste management, green building, the substitution of hazardous chemicals used in hospitals with safer alternatives, reducing health care’s climate footprint and working with the health sector to advocate for a healthy climate.

HCWH has regional offices in theUnited States, Latin America and South East Asia (Manila) as well as strategic partners in South Asia and Africa.

HCWH will host the First Climate and Health Summit, Dec 4.

On December 4, 2011, Health Care Without Harm is co-organizing the First Climate and Health Summit, which will take place parallel to the UNFCCC meetings at the Tropicana Hotel in Durban, South Africa.

The event will bring key health sector actors from around the world together to discuss the impacts of climate change on public health and solutions that promote greater health, as well as economic equity between and within nations.

Global Climate & Health Summit, Durban Dec 4, Save the Date

The Summit is co-organized by the World Federation of Public Health Associations, the Climate and Health Council, Health Care Without Harm and the Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine at the University of KwaZulu Natal. It is also being organized in partnership with the World Health Organization, the World Medical Association and the International Council of Nurses, among others.
